ABOUT THE TREATMENT
Laser hair removal is becoming a very common way for removing unwanted hair from the body by exposing pulses of laser that burns the hair follicle. Hair removal through laser has proved that results are long lasting and safe. For the reason this treatment has become very popular in removing unwanted hair permanently in a fast and effective manner.

HOW IT WORKS
Laser hair removal uses laser light pulses to selectively destroy hair follicles by targeting the melanin (colour) in them. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser’s light pulse, which damages the follicle enough to significantly retard hair regrowth. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the hair follicle whilst the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. The intensity and duration of laser impact is carefully calibrated to obtain optimal effect on a targeted tissue while preventing any damage on surrounding tissues.
The laser light targets only actively growing hair (anagen phase), therefore multiple treatments are necessary to treat all the hair as they are not all growing simultaneously. Different hair follicles will be in different hair growth stages at any one time.
The Type of treatments available are:
-
Thick hair: colour of skin and hair thickness determines type of LASER used. for example, Alexandrite LASER (e.g. Gentle lase) is used for thick hair in fair skinned clients while Nd:YAG is used for darker skin types
-
Vellus hair: usually is less responsive to LASER. People refer to Q-switched LASER as bleaching LASER. It delays and also decreases hair regrowth.

THINGS TO KNOW
If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That's because the laser targets the hairs' roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.
You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes complications after treatment more likely.
Laser does not work well on light-coloured hair, red hair, grey hair, white hair.
After the treatment, the dead hair needs to come through the skin. It is pushed through and then shed within one to three weeks. During this period the hair will seem to grow as the new skin pushes them out. After the second laser treatment, depending on skin and hair type, the area can already begin to look patchy as certain hair follicles stop producing new hairs. This is normal and expected result.
The skin may be red immediately after the treatment and the hair follicles where the skin has been treated may be raised and bumpy. This usually subsides within a few hours but can take up to 48 hours for some skin types. You may also experience itching for a few days later.
It requires several laser hair removal sessions to ensure catching all the hair in the anagen phase. Number of sessions varies but in general the average is 80 % decrease after 8 regular sessions with the right calibrations if there are no hormonal disturbances.
