CHEMICAL PEEL

Helpful for wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure to exfoliate the damaged external layer of skin to bring out the new, firm and smooth skin that’s underneath it. This treatment is highly recommended for various skin and age-related problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, scars, blemishes and age spots as well irregular pigmentation on face and neck. Chemical peels may also be used to treat skin on the arms, legs, hands, back and buttocks.

HOW IT WORKS

Chemical peel – It is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger looking. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, skin discoloration and scars - typically on the face and back.

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that involve the careful exfoliation of the skin using an acid. The acid removes a uniform amount of damaged skin cells across the treatment area. When done appropriately, this allows the skin to heal, with minimal side effects as a result of the treatment.

Chemical peels work both on the epidermis and dermis layers.

There are various types of peels with different depth of peeling, like:

  • Alpha hydroxy acids Peel (AHA peel) - It work with different mechanisms to remove the superficial layer of skin, known as the keratin layer. They are the best treatment for skin lightening and use various acids like citric acid from malic acids from apples, lactic acid from milk, and glycolic acid from sugar cane.

  • Salicylic Acid Peeling treatment - helps to open the pores and destroys the acnes that cause the bacteria to progress and make further damages.

  • Trichloroacetic Acid Peel - It is performed to cure severe skin damage. It works well with conditions such as melasma (skin discoloration), scars caused by the sun, severe acnes and pigmentation.

  • Phenol peel - The strongest form of chemical skin peeling and usually requires anaesthesia. The procedure requires a long recovery time, but it reaches the depth of the skin and is a highly productive form of skin peeling treatment.

  • Others: Dermamelan mask, Yellow mask Peel and Tretinoin mask Peel ( 5% and 10 %).

THINGS TO KNOW

  • Most Skin Peeling treatments performed using natural products are harmless and require minimal aftercare. However, chemical skin peeling treatments have to be followed by proper aftercare for quicker healing.

  • Number of sessions and course of treatment varies according to case, type of peel applied and desired results e.g. with superficial mild peels; a course of 3 peels 10-14 days apart is recommended while deep peels are usually done every 3-6 months for best results.

  • Sun Protection is essential with any peel. Sun exposure should be completely avoided for 2-3 days and SPF creams should be used whenever possible.

  • Redness and sore skin are expected outcomes of this treatment but are easily treatable.

  • A person should refrain from swimming for 2 3 days after treatment. Make-up should also be avoided.

  • In Deep Peels; peeling extends deeper into the lower dermal layer of the skin. Results are dramatic, but recovery takes the longest and involves higher incidence of side effects.

  • The potential for improvement to the skin increases with the depth of the peel. As the same time, the risks of side effects are greater with deeper peels.

  • Post peel instructions and medications must be followed carefully to guarantee best results. Skin Peeling is mostly a potent form of skin healing treatment and might cause some serious side effects if not done carefully.
